Crazy fishing for Coho

June 29, 2009 by bcfishing

The last few days have been crazy fishing, ran into a school of coho and couldn’t even clip the lines to the downrigger without catching another coho. Most of them were wild coho so they were released but some were clipped so we put 10 coho in the boat and probably release 40 plus wild ones. On one side of the boat we had a flasher and a big turd, the other side was a flasher and a 4″ green/nickel coyote spoon, both sides were just as productive. We had to make a move so we went to the west shallows picked up the last couple of halibut we needed and a couple lings. The party ended up with 10 Chinooks, 10 halibut, 13 coho 20 crabs and some ling and rock fish. They could not believe all the action they got into.
Soggy fisherman but had a crazy day with chinooks, coho and halibut

BC Salmon Fishing has been fantastic
At times fishing has been crazy, while there has been a lot of 3 year old fish, sorting through them has brought some good quality chinooks. A lot of the time there is a fish coming up one side as the gear is going down the other side,,,, Double headers happening throughout our day…..

The coast has had some exceptional weather until today, some undesireable weather has moved in but is only expected to be around for a couple of days.

Ready for Weekend Launch…Sure Hope so…

April 15, 2009 by bcfishing

Trying hard to get ready to launch the boat this weekend. The new Espar heater is almost finished installation and the Stainless Steel rails arrived today, they do need a little tweaking so I will haul the boat down to a fab shop and have them do a little bending here and there, shouldn’t be to hard to do. While I have the boat out I will take it to the boat launch and back it in and fire up the engines for a little while and then haul it back home to finish up the rails and the heater. Once the rails are mounted I will just have to mount downriggers and rod holders and its good to go….

Getting closer to launching the boat

April 11, 2009 by bcfishing

Well things are getting pretty close to launching the boat for the 09 season, stainless steel rails will be in on tuesday, and the other parts I need for the new Espar heater to finish the install, so boat will be ready next week. After that the boat will be moved into Ucluelet and time to get out and do some fishing, crab traps will go in first and then its time to get some fish slim in the boat.

HELLO WORLD!!!!

March 28, 2009 by bcfishing

Hello Everybody,

My name is Alan and I am a fishing addict……. Born and raised in British Columbia most of the time on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in a town called Ucluelet ( Proun. U – Klue – Let ) or Ukee for short……..

Our family first moved to Ucluelet in 1968 and coming from Vancouver it was fantastic, I could fish anytime I wanted I just had a flight of 49 stairs to go down and I am on the dock ready to fish, I was 12 at the time. I used to see the big draggers coming in which use to tie up at the bottom of 49 steps and I use to get fish given to me, sole, ling cod, snappers and sometimes a 5 gallon bucket of fresh shrimp – sometimes paid a dollar a pail…. Certain times of the year I used to go trout fishing, I would hop on my bicycle and cycle about 15 miles one way, most of it on gravel roads to fish for cutthroats in Indian river, Kennedy River, Kennedy Lake and Clayquot Arm.

I have been involved in some sort of  fishing all my life. From fishing for bullheads of the dock, shiners and perch  river fishing for trout, steelhead and salmon to commercial fishing for salmon, prawns, crabs and codfish and then being one of the first Charter boat operators in Ucluelet for BC salmon fishing and halibut fishing charters first started up in 1981. Known as Striker Charters and Seafood – Live to Fish and Fish to Live. I did leave town for awhile, had to get out and see other areas of North America, I drove truck and then also traveled doing trade shows, fairs rodeos and exhibitions. In 2004 we bought a house in Port Alberni BC and since I am only 100 km from Ucluelet I thought it would be great to have a boat again and start up chartering again, so now I have been back for for 5 years as Wild Pacific Charters, I have a 25 foot Pursuit powered by a 250hp Suzuki Outboard and up to fishing equipment and electronics. On this site I will be trying to up date you on the fishing on the west coast of vancouver island, there may be others who join from other areas of BC to add there updates as well. So I am off for know, I have some updates I am doing to get the boat ready for the 2009 season….

Keep ‘er Tight
